April 2024 Newsletter

Hello you wonderful bunch of Mead Lovers and welcome to our Newsletter! We have decided to produce a newsletter, accessible from both here and your e-mail, in response to many people saying that they don’t do social media (have to say, we can see why!) and feel a bit out of the loop with our news. It also gives us a chance to bring you some unique offers and insights without the character and algorithm restrictions!

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

Tyr’s Mead

Tyr! Tyr! Twice we have called him

For without fear, Justice and Victory be ours.

In the poem Sigrdrífumál (Codex Regius), the Valkyrie Sigrdrífa imparts in the hero, Sigurd, knowledge of various runic charms. One charm invokes the god Týr:

Winning-runes learn, | if thou longest to win,
And the runes on thy sword-hilt write;
Some on the furrow, | and some on the flat,
And twice shalt thou call on Tyr.

Tyr is one of the Æsir gods and is the one you call upon for assistance with winning when you are knowingly right. He will use his wisdom and strength to mete out Justice to correctly award Victory.

Made with two ethically produced and sourced unadulterated Honeys with a citrus twist provided by pure Orange Juice.

The first honey is a light Ukrainian wildflower honey (We know all the people in the full supply chain!) which was chosen to help aid Ukraine in the war with Russia, hence our use in Tyr’s Mead.

The second is a Mediterranean honey from a tree sacred to the Goddesses Hera, Demeter, and Persephone – the Chaste Tree – and gives a floral note to this Mead. The fruit of this tree is said to be beneficial for female health, from menstruation to menopause.

This Mead was made in August 2022 and like our Freya’s Mead is maturing wonderfully, the Orange tang has gently blended in to the honey to give it body and a gentle citrus note which doesn’t overpower the Honeys we have selected.

News From the Meadery

It’s been a bit of an odd time in the meadery. Not much production work as we have both had ‘man-flu’ – for obvious (?) reasons, we don’t do anything production related when we are ill! It’s a good job we make a really good tonic for dealing with such inconveniences! 😀 Unfortunately, it does mean that we have had to put back work on the gift sets for another week.

We’re rapidly approaching year end, so Mrs Mead has been busy tapping away in accounts packages and filing and muttering things about stock take *shudders*. Who said setting up your own business was all fun and games? She is also up to some mischiefs which includes getting lots of professional pictures of our medal winning meads. Our photography person Viperia Images is producing some fab shots as usual!
